This beginner-friendly Mahjong weekend retreat will introduce you to the fundamentals in a welcoming, low-pressure setting. This weekend will focus on the American version of mah jongg, using the 2026 National Mah Jongg League card.

Your retreat will be led by Lynn McDonald of South Bend, an experienced mah jongg instructor who has been teaching the game since 2011. Lynn is known for her clear explanations and supportive teaching style, making this retreat ideal for beginners.

During the weekend, you’ll enjoy 10 hours of mah jongg instruction and guided play, giving you a solid foundation in:

• Basic rules of American mah jongg

• Game flow and tile handling

• Playing confidently in beginner groups

By the end of the retreat, you’ll be well prepared to join a mah jongg group or continue on to an intermediate class series.
